Hi! Ola! Salut! These are our ramblings....

No! Don’t Stop…

Convinced ourselves we seek not to convince

We’ve been living in our neighbourhood for few years already.. Mrs has been here for erm.. almost two decades perhaps? Although it is not really cheap to rent a house here, we always think it is the best option.. near with Mrs’ parents, easy-access, no-bottle-neck 24-7 traffic-jam, shopping MALLS just a shout away, clinics, good paediatrician, specialist center nearby, safe neighbourhood… safe neighbourhood?? hmmmmm.. not really..

a neighbor’s maid just in front of MiL’s house was murdered inside the house before dusk last year, a friend’s FiL’s one-month-old, approx. 100km mileage car was stolen from inside his electronic-gated house, so did a friend’s mother’s car..

In conclusion.. it is not the safest ; (but well, probably still safer than some other places..)

Recently, some responsible neighbours circulated flyers to propose to close access with boom-gates and patrolling guards.. Residents are expected to pay service fee of around RM50 per month.. great effort.. ermm.. but why??

We moved to a landed property for many reasons and locked inside-out is not one of it .. Why do we need to change our lifestyle because of some minority penyangaks who are stupid and greedy enough to intrude our safe-haven?

I remember one Tok Guru reminded ladies to wear more decent clothes to prevent molest and rape cases.. he was heavily criticized and bombarded by many who think covered or not; rapist would still find their ways to do their business.. and how about now? Guarded or not?

I envy a friend of mine who live across the continent, (*in manchesteruk to be exact) who has a beautiful decorative gate in front of his house.. by decorative I mean decorative.. the gate which remains forever open.. and oh btw.. his house is the only one with gate in the neighbourhood..

Here in our own beautiful country.. a gated, iron-grilled, house with alarm and CCTV is no longer safe.. we need Titanium locks, barricades, rottweilers, patrol-guards and so on..

I’m pretty sure in case of emergency such as fire, we dont have time to figure out which key goes to which 10 padlocks that locked our front door..

and then what’s next? Twitter? helicopter-patrol? bullet-proof car? armed-bodyguards? a pet tiger?? (opppss.. too much MW)

I wonder why we have to live in our own country in such fear.. this is not a third-world country.. we have built the tallest twin-tower in the world, implemented the world’s first smart identity card, for godsake!

I’m still wondering why..

Something must be wrong somewhere.. what is the root cause?

(to be continued)

Adam came for a visit today during just before I’m off to work.

He asked me.. “Where do you work ABANG Zen”

I was a bit hesitated to answer, so I said.. “ermm.. at Bukit Jalil.. do you know where is it?”

Then Jr came and said.. “I know.. I know.. You’re working at ‘A**n’, right?>”..

I was stunned for a moment.. Speechless.. Impressed.. I never really tell him which company do I work with..

so I asked him “EH! How do you know?”

He simply replied.. “I heard la…”

Heh.. thats my 4+ year-old-boy who makes my blood go upstairs every time I teach him spelling..

Kids.. they’ll remember what they want to remember..

During one of balik kampung get together with Pak Ngah and Mak Ngah, Jr co-created a role-playing game with his cousins Durrah & Sarah.. he became the Dad, Durrah be the mum; Sarah be the son (don’t ask me why.. however after a while they changed Sarah’s character to Daughter) and Nayla be the little baby..

The Bossy dad will come back from work.. ask mum to cook.. eat together etcetera.. etcetera..

Today the girls again came for a visit.. and as always they played mum & dad.. but this time, they (or probably just him) involved me in as well.. as the OLD man!!

Hey hello!! I’m still in my 20s ok!

ps: DARN!!!! Do I have to shave everyday?

It was the second time I caught Jr while he’s alone in the shower..

Me : Hey! why did you put hair shampoo on you armpit?
Jr : I just want my ketiak (sometimes he says Kelitak) to grow hair like you..

Duhhh! what’s so special bout that??????

I ermm, We always been dreaming our kids to be multi lingual.. not just basic Bahasa n English, but more if possible.. Mrs loves European languages; French, Spanish, Italian etc while I like Oriental; Mandarin, Japanese etc..

We don’t want to push him though cause afraid he might be confused. However at the age of 4+, I think Jr can already differentiate which is which.. His Kindie is English based, Bahasa and Mandarin classes also available..

Last night, after went back from Mama’s, it was still early for lights off.. so we allowed 30 minutes TV for the kids.. as I was flipping the channel from Nayla’s favourite 556 to Faeq’s fave 616; Faeq stopped me at 611.. Ultraman Gaia was on..

Not that I don’t like the channel, but I think the translation is a bit dodgy.. so I changed the audio language.. but there’s only Japanese.. kewl, i thought..

Few secs later Faeq stood up, he turned up the TV volume.. tried to catch what was the character saying..

Then he asked me..

Faeq : Why it is different? Just now it was bahasa?
Daddy : Oh, this is Japanese.. you like the language?
Faeq : Yeah I like
Daddy : Later we can send you to Japanese class.. Or probably we can ask Uncle Kadir or Uncle Nizar to teach you.. They can speak Japanese.. You know both of them, right?
Faeq : Yeah.. but I think I want Uncle Ultraman…

Isk isk isk.. Mana aku nak carik uncle ultraman nih..

I was thinking, after Earth Hour being celebrated quite successfully last Saturday.. Why not we do it again?? Here are some ideas from me..

How - Same with what we did on 8.30pm last Saturday during earth.. turn off all the lights.. better still turn off your main power source.. no lights, no fan, no tv.. no internet..

What - Since it’ll be dark and hot.. Lets just call it THE DARK(est) HOUR ??

Who - All Malaysians only.. with the spirit of Malaysia Boleh..

Where - all over the world.. Malaysians in Oceania, Asia, Europe, Africa, America, or even out of the world.. do we have anyone @ ISS? oppss.. sorry.. went back already..

When - why wait for Earth Hour 2010.. why not do it now.. Lets do it tomorrow.. or maybe Friday, so still got time to call for the rest of Malaysians.. what time? hmmm… earth hour is @ 8.30pm local time.. meaning it is different time according to timezone.. since this is our nation effort, lets do it the same time.. how about 10AM Friday 3 April 2009.. and lets do it annually.. at least for next 3-4 years perhaps..

Why - I dont know.. you tell me..

ps: Wait.. on the other hand.. how about we ask other countries to participate as well.. no.. not all.. selective countries only.. else it wont be unique.. how about those which start with letter M

By SIMON KHOOand KAREN CHAPMAN

Frankly I think, the idea of teaching Math and Science in English is very good. Perhaps somewhere somehow the implementation wasn’t as supposed.. Understood that some which may not even be a majority are really pushing for it but I am totally against of flip(flop)ing back BM.. However improving the implementation is a must to avoid future generation from lacking behind..

*************************************************************************************

At night, Jr was on sugar-rush after a visit from his cousins from seremban earlier that evening.. jumping up and down on the bed.. mummy couldnt stand it any longer and began her infamous counting..

Mummy : “You better go to sleep now before I count to ten!! Masuk tido! SAAA-TU!!!”

Heh.. Do you think that’ll work on this Cheeky little boy???

Prolly in his mind : (Lalalalala.. Tomorrow don’t have school.. lalalalalalala.. Mummy wanna count? I can count also)
Jr : SATU… DUA…. TIGA… EMPAT…. (long pause).. SATU… DUA…. TIGA… EMPAT..
Daddy & Mummy : (puzzled)

Jr : Errrr.. Daddy.. what’s FIVE?????

Ouch!!!

We, strongly support PPSMI!!

I believe almost everyone of you would know above magic word.. if you don’t, Read it here

Thats not the story.. I was actually wondering how does my 4+ year old son know how to use above word..

it began during our short trip to Singapore.. 4 of us flew to the Lion City on Aeroline.. nice and comfy bus but have to bear 5 hours traveling time which is somehow relatively nothing compared to the hassle to drive or actually flying there.. anyway.. our journey from KL to Spore was in the morning, we slept, ate, watched DVD etc on the bus.. by the last hour we kinda didnt know what to do and decided to hang out on the lower deck.. so we chit chatted whatever until Junior said..

Jr : Abracadabra.. make Daddy to Faeq, make Faeq to daddy.. make Nayla to Mummy and make mummy to Nayla..

we were kinda puzzled.. where did he learn those stuffs.. but.. Me became Faeq? i saw a very huge opportunity.. what Faeq does the best..

Me : Daddy, daddy.. I want Power Rangers!! I want toys!! I want ice cream
Mummy : daddy.. daddy.. nak.. nak.. (pulling his hands and feet.. pretending to be Nayla)

and we kept on and on.. and he didn’t know what to do.. until less than one minute later..

Jr : ok.. ok.. Abracadabra.. turn everyone back to themselves..

hahahaha.. my son if you read this, be thankful for having such wonderful parents (:P) who can stand you when u can’t stand yourself for more than a minute..

from that point.. we often play abracadabra..

Part 2

Well.. thats not the end of story.. such an imaginative smart kid always got tricks in his sleeves..

one very weekend afternoon, Mrs had lunch all served on the table.. Jr was busy playing with toys together with little Miss.. so I called both of them to the dining room..

Me : Hurry up.. have lunch.. after that you have to clean up all the mess..

Immediately after we enjoyed our lunch..

Jr : Abracadabra.. turn Daddy to Faeq, turn Faeq to daddy!! FAEQ!! clean UP..

and we both speechless!

post note : I’ve to be very careful when handling him now, need to lessen my shouting and smacking what so ever.. cause he might use it against me.. Hai.. Anak Bertuah! Lucky indeed..

Mrs’ Uncle had been in and out of hospital for months.. I just remember the last words he uttered to me during last Eid Fitr at GH, after I told him I’ll be leaving to London.. “Well done old Chap!”.. He barely said any words after I came back..

He passed away this afternoon.. quite sad cause we arrived just a minute after..

Al-Fatihah to Allahyarham..

ps: Funeral will be at 10am+ tomorrow at Seksyen 20 Shah Alam..
